Western State Hospital news

Dear Community Partner,

As a part of Governor Jay Inslee’s vision to transform Washington’s behavioral health services, including building a new hospital and new community-based mental health facilities, Western State Hospital developed a 10-year plan to implement a phased renovation and replacement of aging facilities and make improvements to the campus site.

The plan includes:

·       Construction of a new Forensic Center of Excellence hospital sized to meet the future behavioral health needs of the Western Washington Region.  This new hospital facility will be located in the  west zone of the Western Campus adjacent to Steilacoom Boulevard and Sentinel Drive.

·       Expansion and renovations of the existing Center for Forensic Services (Buildings 28 & 29) to meet the current and near-term demands for behavioral health services and provide transition space as new facilities are phased-in over the next 10 years.

·       Expansion and renovations to the Child Study and Treatment Center (CSTC) to serve the current and future needs for adolescent behavioral health services within the Western Washington Region.

·       Construction of a new, small, community behavioral health treatment facility located in the east zone of the Western Campus with access from Steilacoom Blvd.

Please note that historic Fort Steilacoom will be preserved and enhanced as part of the Master Plan including the implementation of parking restrictions within the Historic Fort boundaries and the addition of a Museum and Visitor Center.

While we are formally submitting our 10-year plan to the City of Lakewood in early February. We invite our community partners to meet with us in early to mid-February to learn more about our plan and to and answer your questions about the projects.  If you are interested in setting up a meeting, please respond with what days and times would work best for you so that we can schedule a time to meet. Please email your request to Chief Public Affairs Officer Kathy Spears: [email protected]

Thank you for your continued partnership with Western State Hospital; community support is vital to the success of our patients living in recovery.

Respectfully,

David Holt

WSH Chief Executive Officer
